Department Programs Overview

Rice University's (Rice) Weiss School of Natural Sciences delivers three Professional Science Master's (PSM) in Environmental Analysis and Decision-Making, Nanoscale Physics and Subsurface Geoscience. With funding from the Sloan Foundation and in cooperation with its Board of Affiliate the PSM is a 21 month non-thesis degree that prepares students to work outside academia but that can ladder into a PhD program. PSM programs are composed of science courses, which comprise 70% of the program coursework; cohort courses which comprise 30% of the total course load and an internship. Students can further increase their knowledge of business and management by selecting MBA elective courses offered through the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management.

Buildings & Resources

Rice occupies a 300-acre tree-lined campus located one block northwest of the Texas Medical Center and approximately three miles southwest of Houston's central business district. The Wiess School of Natural Sciences' 140 faculty members and 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are is housed in multiple buildings that provide research laboratories with modern equipment, from an 800 MHz NMR to custom-built specialized systems, as well as teaching laboratories, classrooms, and administrative spaces.
